HHS HealthBeat (January 13, 2012) Planning and managing diabetes Diabetes is a fulltime job; it has to be managed constantly. It’s not easy, and can be frustrating. But the director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Dr. Griffin Rodgers, says it can be done successfully. Dr. Rodgers says it requires a plan. He says you can start by setting one goal to work on – one that’s important to you, and something you’re willing and able to do. Physical activity can be one such goal, because physical activity is important for managing diabetes: "For example, if you know you work late, it might not be a realistic goal to say that you’re going to go for a walk or run after work. Instead, you might try going out for a run or a walk in the morning." (12 seconds) |
