| GAMSAT Section II Written Communication essay drafts Posted: 10 Sep 2012 01:37 AM PDT Hi All, Just registered on the site yesterday so a bit of a newbie here. I've been practicing the Section II essays on paper so I thought I'd type one up here to get some feedback. I've tried to structure it into an intro, a main block of text and a conclusion: Essay quote (title): "As we grow older life becomes more challenging and complicated, but it can also become more satisfying" Introduction This statement suggests that as we grow older, the challenges we face necome either greater or more frequent in nature, and this could be interpreted in a number of ways. Main text As children, the obstacles and difficulties we face, excluding those of health issues, are often regarded by us as trivial and unimportant when looking back on our lives as adults. Issues such as trying to fit in with a crowd and avoid being bullied or being made to feel excluded, for instance. As we grow from there to teenagers and young adults, these issues then turn to wanting to experience the rights and liberties associated with with adulthood, such as sex, drinking alcohol, and generally just being allowed to make our own decisions. However, these too seem trivial when factoring in the responsibilities associated with adulthood, as well as the rights, which may remain avoidable until we leave home, either to get our own place or share with friends. These responsibilities may come in stages or may be thrown at the individual all at once, such as earning and managing an income, paying bills, rent, or even a mortgage, among other necessary loans to pay off. Further still the responsibilities of marriage and caring for children, each with their own time and monetary requirements. Such issues may be what the writer of the title comment describes as "complicated". However, responsibilities such as those above can all be considered as life challenges, and so the more challenges that are battled and then won will often provide the person in the position of responsibility with satisfaction. Parents, in particular those with well-mannered, successful children years after they too have reached adulthood, will have greater reason to be satisfied, and more-so than that, proud of themselves. The comment could also apply to our own personal achievements, as well as those of others, and as such could be viewed to younger readers as a spur to action, to challenge oneself in order to gain satisfaction, and subsequently self confidence. Moreover, I think it acts as re-assurance for young people, implying that though life may become more difficult as time progresses, it'll be alright in the end. Conclusion There can be many interpretations of what is considered as "challenging", "complicated" or "satisfying" but all in all, it depends on the lifestyle of the person concerned. Sorry about the length! Remember it was written over the space of 30 minutes as I was writing it under exam conditions. I'd be very grateful for any feedback. Judoman. |

| Which funding option on UCAS form for GEM? Posted: 09 Sep 2012 10:47 AM PDT Hey all, Thought I'd treat myself this Sunday evening and start the daunting task of filling in the UCAS form. For Graduate Entry Medicine, if I understand correctly, roughly the funding is as follows: Year 1: fund the first 3.5K yourself, get a loan for the remaining 5.5K, Years 2-4: NHS funds the first 3.5K, get a loan for the remaining 5.5K Now, when it comes to the wee box called, "Fee Code" in the personal details section, what on earth does one select to match with the above? The two options I've narrowed it down to are, 02 - UK student finance services or, 05 - Department of Health/Regional Health Funding Any help greatly appreciated! Jenface x |
