Books for beginners

Posted: 14 Sep 2012 02:48 AM PDT

Hello
I''m looking for recommendations of books or websites for self-study in Biology and Chemistry.
I have no background in those subjects, and I have to study it all by my own as a preparation for the BMAT exam in Italy.

I'll appreciate your help! :D

I'm having trouble deciding who to get a reference from:

My old boss at a special needs school in Tanzania - I worked there for a really long time, and I've written a lot about it on my PS, but her written English is just terrible!

My volunteer coordinator at my hospital - I worked there for a year but he never actually saw me do anything. We got on really well but apart from saying that I turned up on time every week and clocked in the right number of hours I don't know what else he'd put

My old boss whose disabled son I cared for - I worked there for 7 months, they were nice people and despite our occassional differences we got on well. I haven't made too much of it on my PS though because a lot of the things I learnt were already covered by my work in Tanzania

Academic references - I graduated 100 years ago. I wouldn't even know where to start finding my tutor and I doubt he'd remember me! And besides, I studied English - it's not exactly relevant.

Hmm, any ideas?

Any advice on deaneries in South/Southwest? and where will you be applying?

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to the forum, and hoping that maybe someone could give me some advice about choosing between Peninsula, Severn and Oxford. I love the idea of living in Devon/Cornwall for quality of life (and short commutes!) but I'm not at all familiar with the hospitals or working life around there!!

Do you think the deanery one chooses can affect future career options, just because of different opportunities in each foundation school?

I'd also be interested in what the banding's like, as I'll have quite a bit of debt to be paying back...

I'm really looking forward to wherever I end up, just thought I'd get some words of wisdom from all of you!
