| When is the best time for us to have children? Posted: 10 Feb 2013 11:42 AM PST I'm 22 and my boyfriend is 26, we've been together for five years and are starting to plan when we want to get married/have kids/etc. Neither of us are ready yet but we just want to get things figured out. I'm a premed and he's a psychology major. I will be entering medical school in 2016 (I figured out late that I want to be a doctor and still have a lot of prereqs left) and he'll be entering graduate school in 2015 or 2016 (he took a few years off before going to college). So by the time we graduate I'll be 30 and he'll be 34, then I have 4 years of residency and he has 3 years of internship, so when we're both completely ready to begin our careers I'll be 34 and he'll be 35-38, depending on how fast he can get done. We want 2-3 kids and feel that's a bit late to start. I just need some opinions on when the best time for us to have kids would be.. I wouldn't mind having kids before med school since I'll be 25, but I imagine that will be impossible since we'll be attending demanding schools at the same time and not have money for childcare. Any advice/suggestions? |
