| GEP - Do I need a medical dictionary or other books? - St George's beginner Posted: 02 Mar 2013 12:59 AM PST Hello everybody out there! I'm starting the MBBS4 (A101) programme at St George's in September. A friend has bought me Black's Student Medical Dictionary. She's given me the receipt as she now thinks it may not be the best book to support me in my studies. Will it be a useful book to have? It's larger than pocket size and quite heavy so not great for carrying round wards, and I recently read that free medical dictionaries are given when you register with a union. Is this true? Would it be more beneficial to have an anatomy colouring book, an anatomy book for students, or 'how to succeed at medical school' (suggested by a course tutor at George's)? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Best wishes Elly |

| Help with FY1 job choices - Advice from current newcatle students or FY1's please! Posted: 01 Mar 2013 07:58 AM PST Hi! I have chosen northern deanery as my top choice and was allocated is last Monday before they withdrew all the allocations (GRRR). I was wondering if anyone from Newcastle students can help me choose between Newcastle trust and Gateshead trust? They both get good feedback. Which hospitals give better teaching? Better support to students/staff? Nicer environment? Nicer Nurses? ETC? Any help will be a help as my finals start in just over a week and so i won't have a chance to get up to Newcastle for an open day before my job choices need to be submitted. Any info will be greatly appreciated! :p |
