2013 Medicine applicants wanted...

Posted: 27 Mar 2013 04:26 AM PDT

Hello Medics,

I'm an educational researcher at the University of Kent conducting a research project into gender differences in clinical applications (i.e. for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine) in the 2012-13 UCAS application round.

If you've applied for Medicine this academic year, regardless of the status of your application(s), I'd be really grateful if you would complete this short (12 questions) survey about your course choices: https://survey.kent.ac.uk/clinical13

It's entirely anonymous - as it's a gender study, the only info about you I want to know is whether you're male or female! My contact details are on the first page if you've any questions.

Please pass the link on to anyone else you know who is applying for any of the three courses this year, the more the merrier!

Huge thanks (and good luck with your applications),

Hannah

Posted: 27 Mar 2013 04:26 AM PDT

Hi everybody,

This is the official 2014 entry UKCAT discussion page!

I am reapplying as I've received my 4 rejections. Very keen on gaining an extremely high UKCAT this year. My previous score was:

VR: 490
QR: 680
AR: 850
DA: 790

As you can see, my score was let down by VR! Any tips and advice would be helpful! And vice versa I will give advice on my high scored sections so get posting guys!

Much appreciated.

Medical Elective in O&G in Argentina

Posted: 26 Mar 2013 02:48 PM PDT

Hello!

I'm currently a fourth year medical student from Leicester, and I've been trying to organise my elective for next year; I'd love to go to Argentina to experience O&G and some community-based health-care too. However, my Spanish is very, very rudimentary, and I'm worried this may be a slight hindrance (although I am trying to sort out and cram my medical vocab!).

Could anyone please tell me about their experiences in Argentina, +/- getting round the language barrier? Also, how was the experience from a clinical point of view?

Thank you heaps in advance :)

Example of postgrad medicine timetable?

Hello!

Was just wondering to any post grads if there was any chance of talking about an example timetable and what they think of the PBL structure to the course? Sufficient for learning needs?

Best GAMSAT prep?

GAMSAT Section III

Question 1.

You receive a Gradmed prospectus in the post, you also receive a quote for a new fitted kitchen. Which is more expensive?

A. The Gradmed course
B. The fitted kitchen
C. Can't tell (because after seeing how much a Gradmed course costs you have an MI and have to be carted off by ambulance)

Ok so I'm being facetious, but the Gradmed courses turn out to be WAY more than I could have imagined.

To those of you who have done the GAMSAT what prep materials can you recommend? In particular for the Chemistry and Physics questions? Did a bit of Chemistry in Uni but not much (my background is nursing) last did Physics at GCSE (we're talking 12-14 years ago now). I've seen some people recommending the Griffiths guide-any good?

Given myself 6 months to prepare (though also preparing for the UKCAT too) so should have enough time

Thanks!
Lou
