Accommodation

Hey just wondered if any current students could give some idea of the price range for a shared house and where people normally live?
I don't really want to go into halls but it all depends on how much a house share works out when you take into account bills aswell as rent.

How will applications work after 2013?

Posted: 08 Mar 2013 11:54 AM PST

From reading the Peninsula Medical School website, I can see that they are splitting the Exeter and Plymouth Schools into individual Medical Schools. I couldn't find any information on how applications will work after 2013 though....

Will we still apply to Peninsula and then they assign you a School or will it literally be two separate schools and you can apply to one or both? Does anyone know if entry requirements will still be the same?

Thanks in advance :)

Human Communications
* please answer these 8 questions, I am writing a paper on how listening will play an important role in my future career.

1. What is the difference between listening, and hearing your patients?

2. How does listening, help you get your job done?

3. Why is it important to understand what your patient is saying?

4. How do you evaluate your patients symptoms?

5. Do you try to remember patients names? Why?

6. What do you do is the patient speaks a different language?

7. Is it important to explain to the patient what you are going to do next? Why?

8. Do you pay attention to nonverbal behaviors? Why and what are some examples?

What materials did you use/are you using to study for GAMSAT....

Posted: 08 Mar 2013 10:13 AM PST

Having spent the day searching through these forums and making use of google - there appears to be a whole host of different preparation courses/home study courses/preparation materials etc available. I am finding it quite difficult to discern which are the more appropriate/more useful.

I gathered the Griffiths GAMSAT review is excellent from NMM and ACER practise questions/test appear to be used quite a bit. I already have A-level revision guides for Biology, Chemistry and Physics and will make use of general reading and catching up on current affairs etc...

However there is also Gold Standard, MedPrep, Ozimed, Des O'Neils and others..has anyone used these? Are they worth the money? I am most definitely willing to put in the preparation (Im planning for 2015 entry so have plenty of time but plan on sitting the Ireland March GAMSAT in 2014) and I am happy to pay the cost - IF they are worth it.

Are there any books that take the Sciences to first year university level? I am a BSc and MSc graduate so should be OK, but I don't have any of my old textbooks and it would good to have a recap. I also only have Physics to GCSE level..

It would be good to hear what people are using to prepare and for those who have already taken GAMSAT - what your attained and what materials/study methods you used?

Thanks in advance!

How many grads are planning to apply for 5 year courses?

Posted: 08 Mar 2013 10:02 AM PST

Hi,
I'm currently on a 5 year course as a grad, and was just wondering how many students were planning to apply for the 5 year course this year? On my course there are only a few grads in 1st year now compared to previous years.

I'm trying to find out how badly the £9000 is affecting people's decision to apply for medicine and what the competition is like now for 4 year courses?

Do any unis offer bursaries to grads?

The best way of deferring entry until 2015.....

Posted: 08 Mar 2013 04:45 AM PST

Some of you may have seen my thread "Nursing or Medicine" - Assuming I do just go for it and follow my passion to be a doctor, having spoken to my fiancé, the best entry date would be 2015. None of this is finalised yet, I am just preparing :D

I am going to take UKCAT and GAMSAT this year anyhow to get a feel for them, and if I am right GAMSAT is valid for 2 years anyway?

I know that many applicants do not get into medical school on their first round of applications and it can take 2, 3 or even 4 attempts! With this in mind, I am tempted to apply this year...but...

Do I apply for 2014 entry for the "experience" and then should I be accepted onto a course, defer to 2015

or

Do I apply this year and directly state that I would like to defer to 2015 entry...

I know medical school admissions tend not to like deferred entry though...my personal thinking is apply for deferred entry.....I just want to maximise my chances of being accepted but I do not to "waste" another year and round of applications.

Thanks in advance for your replies :D
