Posted: 16 Apr 2013 09:26 AM PDT

For anyone that is interested in an intensive weekend revision course aimed at 3rd year (first clinical year) medical students, we are running a 2 day course in Whitechapel on 1st and 2nd June. The teaching is by consultant physicians, including Dr Adam Feather (of Pastest revision books and the excellent free teaching resource "Feather does Finals"..find it at Feather Does Finals, Barts & the London School of Medicine & Dentistry). The weekend will include all core medical subjects, as well as radiology and surgical case teaching. The days run from 08.30 til 5 and lunch is included. Until 1 May the course is being offered at £75 for the weekend, or £40 per day. For details and booking form please email drdeborahasmith@doctors.org.uk

Hope to see some of you there. If not then please enjoy the free Finals revision lectures at the link above.

Best wishes

Debbie

Part-time medicine?

What the hell?

Just read this on BBC news:

"It's a been a long, hard road and I would like to say a huge thanks to the [Cardiff] school of medicine for allowing me to undertake my studies, part-time [over 8 years!]."

Link: BBC News - Wales rugby centre Jamie Roberts qualifies as doctor

I didn't think this was possible, regardless of privileged status/ or other commitments, such as rugby in this case. Amongst other things, I thought medical students were obliged to study full time to fulfill regulatory requirements of an acceptable medical degree. But clearly this is not the case, and there is some flexibility.

So, does Anyone think GEM admissions schools would be open to pleading to study part time?

This is of especial interest to me because I can't afford to study any medical programme with the current funding arrangements full-time.

Your thoughts are welcomed.
