City & Islington - what to expect on assessment day?

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 11:25 PM PDT

Hi everyone,
I've just got my date for the assessment at City & Islington - wed 12th June!
I'm looking forward to it, but slightly nervous about what to expect...what do I need to revise?
I havent studied maths for a few years, so I have a GCSE revision guide & Im wondering what topics I should work on? Is it basic arithmetic or will there be algebra, geometry etc?
Also, what is involved in the communications test, is it an essay?
I would be grateful for any pointers so I can feel a bit more prepared, thanks :)

offer UKCAT teaching

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 09:29 AM PDT

Hi, I am a second year grad entry student at Oxford university. I've been thinking to offer some teaching to be able to get enough money to pay for a conference that I am really keen to go.

I did UKCAT in 2010. total 2900, verbal 600, math 810, Abstract 660, Decision Analysis 830.
I am not an English-native speaker, so I don't want to offer Verbal teaching. Perhaps one suggestion is to read some GRE verbal questions, they are similar.

I'd like to offer teaching in Math and Decision Analysis.
I had a very good math training throughout my school years, and I think that many tricks from primary school Math Olympic training (run internationally, but not in the UK or other English-speaking countries) can be used in UKCAT. I didn't do math as well as I could in that exam as the screen has some problem in my verbal session and I had to talk to the staff but then there was no solution so I just wasted that several minutes within a twenty minute exam. I thought I did terribly in verbal and when I started math, I hadn't got myself back. So I believe that otherwise math is a very easy session to achieve high score.

Decision Analysis: I don't know whether there are tricks, I just always get only 1-2 wrong in any practise I did, and the real exam was the same with the practise. So perhaps if I find any weakness in you, I could help to improve?

I have a summer holiday until first week in July. If you are interested, please contact me. I am thinking about 20 pounds per hour. In the one hour, you have the decision whether you want me to answer your questions or you'd like me to prepare something to teach. I've never been to Kaplan or similar preparation schools, but I don't think you need a lot of tutes for UKCAT. Certainly, you need to know the rules, the tricks, and practise.

Location is Oxford. But occasionally, I go to Cambridge to visit friends. So it depends on the actual date.

EC (Exempt Perosn) option for IELTS

Posted: 04 Jun 2013 08:12 AM PDT

Hello folks,

I was looking into GMC website and found this EC for language requirement i.e exemption from IELTS.

Can someone be eligible for EC rights if he or she is from a Non-EU country (Pakistan, USA), married to a British/indefinite leave to remain in UK.? This mean does not have to take the IELTS?

I emailed the GMC and they said we can't advice on it. Speak to a lawyer

Chao and thanks
