Radiography to medicine

Posted: 06 Mar 2014 03:13 PM PST

Hey everyone, just thought I'd post this up to see if there is anyone in a similar situation/get some advice and see how I am getting on compared to others!

Currently studying diagnostic radiography, in the third of four years and on course for a 2:1. Did fairly rubbish in my highers at school (Scottish equivalent to A-levels) and the only science ones i got were a C in chemistry and a B in Physics.
Have done a fair bit of work experience including shadowing an A&E consultant for a week, shadowing a general medicine registrar for 10 days, shadowing a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for a week including observing theatre and clinics, and shadowing a GP for a week. Plus I have spent a lot of time in a clinical setting through my radiography placement, and exposure to many different departments and areas in the hospital.
I have volunteered with macmillan cancer charity for a year. Although I think I will need to get some more volunteering to ensure my PS is good enough.

Plan on applying for 2015 entry to:
Glasgow 5 yr
Dundee 5 yr
Newcastle GEP
Warwick GEP

From a bit of research on here and elsewhere, seems these universities are most likely to offer me a place. Glasgow is a bit dubious however, as they require chemistry at higher level for graduates of certain subjects. Im applying here as it would make most sense ie not moving away etc. Can anyone give any advice if my degree is suitable enough for me to gain entry to Glasgow? Or if I have any chance at all of getting into any of my choices?

Now just to get a good reference and a stonking big UKCAT before applying this October!

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Cheers.

Part time MD during specialty training.

Hello, I read something about doing an MD/PhD that confused me. Most institutions give an option of studying part time. Does this mean that some doctors will complete an MD whilst continuing with specialty training simultaneously instead of taking time OOP? Thanks.
