Message from the Director

During April, there is increased focus on health issues thanks to observances for National Public Health Week and Minority Health Month. I hope you will look to FDA for resources to support your women's health activities throughout the month. In this update, we feature resources for diverse groups of women: college students, women of color, researchers and pregnant women. Check out one of the links in this update and share the health tips, meeting announcements, and safety alerts with other women in your networks.

New College Women's Health Webpage

OWH launched a new webpage to connect college aged women to FDA health information. The page includes links to general health and beauty resources on topics such as sleep problems, e-cigarettes, contact lens care, and safe medication use. The new online resource is an extension of OWH's national college campaign that has partnered with over 160 colleges and universities to distribute women's health information.

OWH Symposium on Sex Differences

At the annual meeting for the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences, OWH is chairing a symposium on April 25 on Sex Differences in Drug and Device Development. The symposium will feature presentations on sex differences in drugs and devices approved by FDA, modeling the female musculoskeletal system, and sex-based development of endovascular treatment.

Recall of Alli Weight Loss Products

FDA is alerting consumers that GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is withdrawing all lots of its weight loss product Alli from the U.S. market because some packages were tampered with and may contain other kinds of pills. GSK is voluntarily initiating this national market withdrawal to protect consumers from purchasing tampered product.
