Multiple possibilities on Abstract Reasoning

Posted: 15 Jul 2014 09:55 AM PDT

Hi folks,

I've been brushing up on Abstract Reasoning using Medify. The thing I find immensely frustrating is that there are usually lots of rules that can be made that fit the images given for each group, and the correct answers seem to require a somewhat arbitrary selection of the same rules used by the examiner. There have been a few times when I have identified a two-fold rule, made my judgements based on them, and then found that my answers were wrong because Medify assumed a different two-fold rule.

So my question is, from your experience does this happen in the UKCAT too?

A related issue is that when it's a three-fold rule, you can sometimes penalise yourself so much by getting only 2/3 of the rule that you'd have been better off guessing. Do 3-folds crop up often in UKCAT?

Cheers,
Bardo

Should I move on? Be Honest Please

Hi, currently a first year undergrad of Psychology and was unsure where to post. I figured by the time I could apply to medicine I would be 22 and therefore 'mature'? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anywho, I know there are tons of posts like this but do I stand a chance applying to medicine (GEM)?

My GCSEs were quite bad

7 GCSEs, failed Chemistry and Physics (D, F)

Alevels

ABC (socio, english, media)

I am determined to redo my GCSEs and do Alevels again and have already spoken to my local college about this. I would be doing them in the evenings while doing my degree and would have 2 A levels (Chem and Bio) by graduation in 2016. I am really determined to do this but ultimately wouldn't want to waste money (paying for the exams, books, etc) trying to pursue a pipe dream. I'm considering KCL and Southampton for applications.

If there is anything else I could do to increase my chances besides work experience please let me know! I'm very positive but appreciate honesty. IF you have other suggestions on how I could enter medicine please comment as well. :D. Thanks!

PS. I've just read over this and my words are all over the place but I'm quite nervous. My English skills aren't this bad, I promise :).
