Hey guys,
Not sure what forum this was best going in but I'm looking for a little advice.
I'm a new Fy1 starting in Blackburn at the end of this week, having studied medicine in Manchester.
I'm obsessed with the idea of living and working in Italy. I don't have any qualifications in Italian and because my school didn't do Italian A level I wasn't able to do it as European option at University.
I am taking private Italian lessons with medical Italian, with a view to being fluent within 2 years, as I've already learnt a little bit.
Ideally, I'd like to move to Italy after FY2 and do my specialty training either in GP, Psychiatry or Paediatrics there.

So, if anyone knows, how do UK qualifications translate to Italy? How do I get into specialty training there? And should I move back to the UK how does specialty training in Italy translate to England should I get to consultant level there?

I know it's complicated but would love the help.
Josh

What are my options?

Hi guys,

I posted a while back when I first started thinking about going for grad med, and I suppose I kind of hoped maybe it would go away and I'd be seized by a deep urge to do something normal for completely non-science-related historians. Unfortunately that's not the case and instead medicine has become something of an obsession for me.

However, whenever I think about it I just think about the bazillion problems and obstacles there are to it. Things like how I'm in entirely the wrong position to apply, how I won't be earning money until my late 20s, how I will end up with about £50,000 in student debt, how things like settling down will have to be delayed...

I'm currently 20 and going into my final year this October. Because of the packed nature of terms and vac time at my university, and because of other commitments, I'm not going to be able to do any kind of work experience relating to medicine until after I graduate in summer 2015. Nor will I be able to study science until after.

Realistically, I'd have to take a year out in 2015-16 to get work experience, then apply in 2016 for a 2017 start, wouldn't I? As there'd be no way I could get ready in time to apply for 2016?

Which would make me 23 when I started at a minimum if I somehow got in first try, and I'd be 27 when I finally started work in F1 :(

And then on top of all this is the worry that GEM won't even exist with viable financing by the time I could apply.

Is it time to just let this go and join some law firm or something instead? :(

Warwick 2015 Entry

Posted: 27 Jul 2014 04:58 AM PDT

Hi all,

Any other Warwick applicants around? I wasn't planning to apply until Friday but they've just changed their 2015 entry requirements and now accept people with a 2.ii and a masters.

I've never been before and I'm only just starting to look into what the university is like. Very exciting to be considering somewhere else. I was planning to apply to KCL but I don't think my UKCAT will be high enough this year and although I loved Kings, I think I would find being outside of London a lot easier.

Currently planning to apply with a 2.ii BSc (hons), MSc with merit & a UKCAT average of 732.5
