I am just wondering if the griffiths book has much more info that's not covered in the gold standard. I already bought the gold standard so im reluctant to spend more money on more material.

Hey everyone,
I started this thread for those who are starting City and Islington College - Access to Medicine course in September 2014, with a view to do medicine or Biomedicine, or any relevant subject.
Kindly introduce your self. Also any previous student who done this course would like to give an insight in this, would be great.

A level or Access course for a mature student?

Posted: 19 Aug 2014 10:55 AM PDT

Hi everyone!

I am 30 years old and in full time employment with the NHS. I am interested in taking up the Access to Dentistry course but I have some queries about their entry requirements.
"Applicants who have completed a level 3 course (A-levels or equivalent or Baccalaureates) within the last two years will not be considered."

Does anyone know why applicants with a recent A level are not considered?

I would like to take up dentistry and it has been more than 10 years since I completed my GCSE studies.
My intentions are to take up part-time Chemistry and Biology A levels to increase my confidence whilst obtaining the required experience before applying for this access course.

I do not wish for this to stop me from applying for the access course in the near future.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Please someone advise me what to do......

Hello People....

Basically i am a Biomedical Science student, hoping to achieve a 1st, if not a high 2:1. Unfortunately due to my time at University what should have taken me four years to complete (Foundation year included) will now take six years because of a year being wasted after stupidly failing a unit in first year and second year. Doesnt sound impressive i know but the only consolation i can take is that the first year doesn't count to the classification of my degree and the second year only has a very small weighting with an option of third year being the most vital.

When my first year from university was wasted i came along a great opportunity by working in my local A&E as a progress chaser which was amazing as i was basically working alongside doctors specializing in the treatment of minor injuries. So i believe i gained some valuable work experience.

This year i was thinking i should retake my A-Levels.....they were pathetic and to be honest i was lucky that i was accepted onto a foundation year for Biomedical Sciences because of my GCSE's i beleive.

My main question here is it worth retaking my A-Levels? I've read in certain threads that if you do it after two years Medical schools dont really take them into account? I just feel that now that i have this time available to myself it would be beneficial to re-do my A-levels just to prove to my self more than anything what i am actually capable of. Im 22 now, started Uni in 2010.

I'm at a hard place mentally, with my dreams of becoming a doctor looking bleak as the years pass by. I wont give up that's for sure....just need some honest advice.
