FY1 Questions for EU grad of Irish school

Posted: 23 Aug 2014 02:15 PM PDT

I am an American/UK dual citizen. I was raised in the USA, but I have a good shot at a program in Ireland. I'd love to move to Europe permanently.

1) As an Irish grad, am I likely to get an FY1 spot in Ireland? What do you need to do to be competitive?

2) How could I be competitive for an FY1 spot in England or Scotland? Do Irish medical students do electives in England/Scotland to get NHS experience before they apply to FY1?

3) If I do FY1/FY2 in Ireland, can I get a SHO position in UK easily?

4) EU students are treated equally by law, but is that really true? Would the UK be just as likely to take someone from Spain as Ireland?

Thank you.
