Getting work experience in York area

I live a few miles outside of York towards Hull, I've contacted numerous GPs, along with both Hull and York hospitals only to get rejections. I have no idea how I'm supposed to get experience within a medical setting if I keep getting this response. It's really annoying as well when in Sheffield, Leeds and Newcastle, the hospitals there have provisions for those wanting to take up work experience. I was wondering if anyone who might have a similar problem has any advice. I have all the voluntary work under my belt already, it really is just a matter of actually shadowing a doctor or working at a surgery.
