| This Week in CTP - Updates from the Center for Tobacco Products
On Wednesday, June 11, Legacy will host the second Warner Series lecture focusing on key recommendations from the Surgeon General’s 50th Anniversary Report on the Health Consequences of Smoking. In the report, the Surgeon General calls for the acceleration of the national movement to reduce tobacco use, including the “effective implementation of FDA's authority for tobacco product regulation in order to reduce tobacco product addictiveness and harmfulness." For this special Warner Series event, Mitch Zeller, director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, will speak one-on-one with Legacy President and CEO Robin Koval about the Center's vision for the regulation of tobacco products to help reduce the death and disease toll caused by tobacco use. The event will be held in Washington, D.C. and begins at 11:30 a.m. EDT. Visit Legacy's Warner Series webpage to register to attend in person and for details on the event webcast. -- FDA continues to review tobacco product marketing applications and issue decisions on those submissions. In May, FDA issued 4 Substantial Equivalence (SE) orders and 10 Refuse to Accept (RTA) letters. Additionally, companies withdrew 49 SE reports from the review process. More information on these actions, and a summary of all the actions FDA has taken, can be found on our Tobacco Product Marketing Orders webpage. |
